It is mid June and the garden is starting to take off which makes me want to talk about perennial combinations. Perennial combinations make a garden more interesting than just blocks of perennials with no thought as to what looks good together. Here are few of favorite early season combinations.

Hard to go wrong with purple and yellow. Tall yellow columbines pair beautifully with purple salvia and catmint. The dark purple and light purple also work well together.

Light purple variegated iris with hot pink painted daisies and a few blue penstemon keep the neighbors interested as they walk by.

A combination I use a lot is purple salvia with pink dianthus. The height of the hot pink dianthus and the taller salvia make them a perfect pair. Pink chintz thyme and pink perennial geraniums add color and help me with layering in the garden. They also tuck in nicely along the flagstone path.

Love these salmon oriental poppies with the purple iris. This combination is hard to beat. The soft spring colors remind me to stay calm!

Fairly certain peonies look great with anything but I love them with iris and catmint. Must get a better picture to show off peonies.

Showing off how happy pink and purple chintz thyme are with dianthus and coreopsis even though the coreopsis is not blooming yet. The colors and heights of the plants make a beautiful early garden.

Wonderful perennial combinations, great colors! Alison
Lovely!
