If you look closely you’ll see little yellow pieces of paper on the table. I had this cute idea to write down toasts on pieces of paper and place them at each place setting. The yellow paper made the table look bright and festive for my Mexican fiesta night. The idea was each person would read a toast and we would all have some laughs while we raised our glass and cheered. In hindsight this may have been a bit controlling on my part and it definitely did not turn out the way I planned.
Mistake number one was letting my friends make their own margaritas. Who knew my friends had no idea how much tequila goes into a margarita. Mistake number two was thinking I was being creative with my little toasts. Let’s just say the toasts got completely misconstrued after several margaritas. Everyone misinterpreted the toasts, feelings were hurt and couples were not getting along.
Now I let everyone make their own toast if they want to and try to be a little less controlling. Planning and preparation are keys to a great dinner party but no more writing down toasts for me.
