Place cards are wonderful if having more than 8 people over. Obviously place cards are a bit of overkill if you are just having a few friends. Place cards are especially helpful when you are plating food in the kitchen or doing last minute cooking

and everyone is standing around wondering where they should sit. I just want them to take a seat. Place cards help avoid confusion and they can add to the decor of your table.

I like to use boxes of chocolates or bags of candies with names tied to the bags as place cards. I figure if dessert is awful at least guests have something sweet. Most guests gobble up dessert and dive into the box of chocolates. There are so many ways to be creative- names on ornaments, flowers tied ribbon with a name card, picture frames with the guest’s name in the frame. I could go on and on. I also like just plain old place cards with beautiful handwriting.

Place cards are really just another way to let your guests know you are thrilled to have them over…even if you seat them as far away as possible from you.
